A recent survey of more than 1,800 fathers and mothers in major Indian metros revealed that a sizeable number of parents feel unsatisfied with the levels of involvement with the child.
In Mumbai, only 50% parents in Mumbai claimed to be ‘extremely involved’ in the lives of their children.
Loneliness is nothing but a sad feeling and it disturbs your kids from within. This can easily be taken care by parents’ proper love and care.
Your love and attention can surely change their life and can pull them off from the darkness of loneliness. A child in 4-12 years age-group need to be handled properly as this is a foundation growth-period. Today we are about to discuss about some of the adverse impacts of loneliness on children.
1. Development of unhealthy-habits: When kids fail to get companionship of their parents then automatically they get interested towards different unhealthy-habits. These habits bring destruction to kids’ life. Kids will become directionless and will start disobeying their parents.
2. Miscommunication: Without proper interaction, parents cannot maintain a healthy relationship with their kids. If proper communication is missing then misunderstandings crop up. This often happens when both parents are leading a hectic life and unintentionally they put parenting on a low priority. Parenting is an art that can easily be mastered if a focused approach is taken.
Many a times, because of the social norms created by us, many youngsters do not feel comfortable in openly discussing their feelings. These are early signs of tendencies towards anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.
Rather than acknowledging it as a systemic problem and taking a corrective action, many students end up reacting by moving towards unhealthy habits like consumption of alcohol and tobacco. Many studies have indicated that these habits are relatively higher among those who face anxiety and other mental health issues. The difference increases with severity of mental problems.
